Master bedroom reveal & faux limewash tutorial

I present to you the organic modern bedroom of my dreams!! I am a huge advocate of making sure that your bedroom feels like a safe haven and I am sooo excited with how this turned out! A key to this new space was really honing in on giving my bedroom tons of depth and dimension with adding different textures and layers. I did this with my bedding, my large tree, my wavy accent mirror, and the faux limewash on the wall (more on that below!!) I am so pleased with how everything turned out!

faux limewash tutorial

Fiiiinally answering all the questions about the faux limewash I did in our primary bedroom! This has been one of the most asked-about projects, and while I am NOT a DIY expert, I’m sharing exactly how I got this look (with a little trial and error along the way).

I am linking the brush I used here.

A few things to preface with!!

  • I had no clue what I was doing when I started. If you want an expert tutorial, there are plenty out there.

  • Buuut, I love how it turned out, and you all asked for the details, so here we go!

PAINT COLORS & SUPPLIES USED

  • Alabaster by @sherwinwilliams (I previously used Loggia and it was too dark)

  • Neutral Ground by @sherwinwilliams

  • Both in a matte finish

  • Ultra-wide, coarse paintbrush from @loweshomeimprovementFunctional

The Process:

  1. Some tutorials suggested dipping the brush in water first, but let’s be real - I did not do that. Took my chances. 🫠

  2. Poured both paint colors onto a plate and dipped my brush in them, mixing just enough to get a natural variation.

  3. The key step: paint thousands upon thousands of Xs on the wall. Seriously. This technique helps blend the colors and creates that textured, organic feel.

  4. I also painted my baseboards and trim to keep everything cohesive.

  5. I plan to get paintable outlet covers and finish those later so everything flows seamlessly.

  6. Some areas are a tad patchy, so I’ll be doing a second coat eventually. I’ve read that helps even out the finish!

I love how this technique gives the walls a natural, lived-in texture—like actual limewash, minus the hassle and $$$. It’s organic, warm, and makes the space feel super cozy.

Stay tuned for more organic modern home inspo.
